People, cafes, vendors, street merchants, buskers, historic buildings, art installations and much more. The power of observation underpins the art of great street photography. Learning to "see" interesting detail is a practised skill and we introduce you to easy methods that will open your photographer's eye and expose you to a world that is alive with detail. The most rewarding part of the class is learning how to approach interesting people and have them willingly pose for you.

We will also go over settings, focusing techniques and lens choices common to street photography to help us capture those random chance encounters.

I really enjoyed learning from Kyle. He was friendly and informed. We had lovely weather. I've struggled to learn drawing for a very long time and haven't gotten very far. Kyle helped me understand how to start....and that's exactly it - how to get started! He also answered a number of questions that helped me clarify things I hadn't really understood before. I hope he teaches another drawing class.

I have been taking art courses for many years. My favorite medium is soft pastels. I also love working with charcoal, graphite, markers and ink. I have also been exploring other mediums such as oil pastels. My works are bright, colorful and in an expressionist style. The subjects are landscapes, particularly trees, and still life.
You may have seen my work at Grand Valley Artists, ArtPrize, Regional Art Festival and Celebration of the Arts.
I do believe that art brings beauty and hope to this world, and is a reminder of the magnificence of God's creations.

Kristen Pham is available for private bookings

Private or small classes are available by special appointment. Instructions will included basic drawing skills, such as line work, shading, composition and work on perspective.

'Mr. Attitude' is a better title but this guy was a 'friendly' attitude With narrow shoulders and strong arms, he worked daily and evening rode his motorcycle. I asked him to pose in his favorite t-shirt and this painting is the result. His place of work was shown in the abstract background. Casein paint on prepared paper.

This Art was painted mostly 'plein aire' and finished in the studio from photo. I was standing on a small bridge that a local farmer had built over the drainage from the marsh. Oil on board and framed in attractive 'floating art' style frame.

I got the idea by looking at a Matisse painting. His however had all red furniture and white tulips for flowers. I wanted to add more color. I loved the old heart shaped chair and wanted to incorporate that into the painting. It is soft pastel on Kitty Wallace paper, approx. 32x28 in.

Title or Location: Maiden, Mother, Crone
This series is a deeply personal representation of myself as a geeky, black, queer, Wiccan woman and is a celebration of women throughout the seasons of our lives. The maiden represents beginnings and youth. The mother represents the fullness of life and maturity, and the crone represents wisdom and the end of the cycle of life. I wanted to capture each iteration throughout the seasons of the year, sprinkled with a bit of magic and fantasy. Each painting is 18" x 24" oil on canvas.

Oils on 56cm x 46cm canvas. Large for me!A larger canvas really does provide a wonderful opportunity to dive into the textures and subtleties of the lion cub's fur, and those expressive little details?like the way its eyes catch the light. Oils allows you to layer and blend, giving more depth and ability to play with the softness of the fur.

Winter?s grip on the Straits of Mackinac slowly melts away with each passing day of warm sunshine. The ice cover gradually retreats with the approaching spring and renewal of another shipping season on the Great Lakes.
